2-Minute Warning Commentary

HUMP DAY

Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike -- what day is it Mike.

Last week, I felt like I was in the GEICO commercial about hump day -- only hump day was Wednesday on more than one occasion.

You've probably seen the commercial where the camel goes through the office asking every employee what day it is. And, of course, the camel is hoping they'll say it's hump day.

For many National Football League fans, hump day was one of a few days last week.

Hump day signifies a countdown to the end of the week, and for NFL fans, training camp signifies the countdown to the start of the season.

Last week, all NFL teams began the annual ritual of getting ready for the regular season, and like every season, teams are already suffering through early season injuries.

Former Minnesota Viking wide receiver Percy Harvin, now with the Seattle Seahawks, is on the physically unable to perform list and may need hip surgery.

Being placed on the PUP list isn't a big deal -- a lot of players grace the list and make it back in time to being the regular season, but in the past Harvin has had his share of missed practices and playing time. He is an explosive player, but continues to be injury prone.

Two teams, the Philadelphia Eagles and World Champion Baltimore Ravens took a hit losing two key cogs in its offense.

The Eagles lost an explosive offensive playmaker in wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, who is out for the year with a torn right anterior cruciate ligament. Maclin's production will be hard to replace and there aren't many quality receivers on the free agent market. I hear Terrell Owens is looking for a job -- don't worry Eagles fans, it was a joke -- kind of.

Dennis Pitta, who will be out for the season with a dislocated hip, will be missed by the Ravens.

Although the Ravens signed former New England Patriots, Vikings and New York Giants tight end Visanthe Shiancoe, Pitta had chemistry with Ravens' quarterback Joe Flacco. With all the defections from Baltimore, the Super Bowl champs will have a difficult time getting back to the promised land.

Preseason games are just around the corner, and like most fans, I am happy football is upon us.

How happy am I? I guess you could say I am happier than a camel on Wednesday.

Hump day -- yea-ah.
