VILSECK, Germany -- Medical professionals in Bavaria are encouraging parents of school-aged children to make an appointment for school-year vaccinations.
Department of Defense Education Activity policy requires students who enroll in DoDEA schools to meet specific immunization requirements.
"August is National Immunization Awareness Month, which just happens to coincide with the beginning of the school year," said Maj. Kevin Warwick, acting chief of Preventive Medicine for Bavaria Medical Department Activity. "We're asking community members to be proactive and start the immunization process early Children need immunizations for school and this is an excellent opportunity for parents to make sure their up to date with their vaccines."
Between now and the end of the month parents are encouraged to make an appointment for immunizations at their clinic.
DoDEA allows a 30-day grace period for transferring students.
