FORT SILL, Okla. (July 18, 2013) -- Spc. Latoya Marshall, an automated logistical specialist assigned to 696th Forward Support Company, 168th Brigade Support Battalion here, has a deep passion for volleyball.

She has been playing competitively since the sixth grade, and her dedication earned herself a spot on the All Army Volleyball Team.

This past year was her first time playing with the All Army Volleyball Team and she help lead them to a gold medal in the All Armed Forces Tournament.

Marshall also was selected to the All Armed Forces Team which went to the nationals in Louisville, Ky. The team came in first place in the Silver Lighting bracket in national play.

At 5-feet-10 inches, the Army specialist has an excited passion for the game. Her face lights up when she talks about volleyball.

She played in college, but it was while in the Army that her love for volleyball gained real momentum. The All Army team has given her the opportunity to build relationships with other players within the Army.

"My passion for the game of volleyball comes from the freedom I have on the volleyball court," said Marshall.

"I have developed many friendships with players while being on the All Army Volleyball Team," she said.

This year's 12-person team was made up of different ranks and installations within the Army and is a part of a large military morale program called Armed Forces Sports.

"The Armed Forces Sports program is an eye-opening experience because without this program I would have never been able to play on the All Army Volleyball Team which was one of my goals while in the Army," said Marshall. "It is extremely exciting be able to play on the All-Army Volleyball Team and serve my country at the same time.

"I would like to thank my chain of command for giving me the opportunity to try out for the All Army Volleyball Team because if that did not happen I would have never known if I would have made the team," said Marshall. "I will be trying out again next year as long as my chain of command approves it."
