ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Ill. -- An Army Sustainment Command civilian from the Distribution Management Center here has the honor of being the only ASC employee to be selected for the 2012 Louis Dellamonica Award.

Misty Misbah, a management analyst for the Materiel Integration Branch, received the honor presented to top Army Materiel Command personnel annually.

"It was quite a surprise ... I am deeply honored, and very appreciative of receiving this recognition," Misbah said.

She joins a group of 15 other AMC personnel who also were selected for the 2012 Louis Dellamonica Award within the command.

"Nominees are judged on how their initiatives measurably improve their work environment and AMC's mission, how they motivate and inspire fellow employees to improve or increase the quality of their own work, and how well they are viewed by peers, subordinates and supervisors," a May 20 AMC news release stated announcing the winners.

The annual award is presented in honor of Louis Dellamonica, a general engineer who worked at Hawthorne Army Depot, Nev., whose 65-year career exemplified integrity, innovation, leadership, and outstanding dedication to AMC's mission.

At age 94, Louis Dellamonica retired in 2007.

Misbah has been with AMC for nearly 10 years. Her federal career started at TACOM -- when it was at RIA -- in the Light Combat Product Support Integration Directorate supporting Bradley Weapon Systems. She was hired after applying on a student hire position, she said.

Up until now, Misbah has been receiving coins for her work, the highest coming from a former AMC commanding general, Gen. Ann Dunwoody. She's also received Letters of Appreciation and even a cash award.

Misbah said she finds her work rewarding.

"Working in the Distribution Integration Division, as the executing agent for the LMI (Lead Materiel Integrator) mission, we are always receiving new challenges. I love tackling new projects, and discovering innovative ways to solve Army-wide problems," Misbah said.

"Ms. Misbah is an absolutely outstanding member of the DMC team. Her performance and mission focus over the last year is definitely deserving of this great recognition," said her former supervisor, Maj. Steven Litvin, who was chief, Materiel Integration Branch, and now is distribution Management Command executive officer.

"Her unwavering dedication in the development, promotion and training of the Decision Support Tool has been crucial in the success of the Lead Materiel Integrator mission Army wide. Ms. Misbah's positive outlook and attitude is contagious and makes everyone around her better. It has been a complete honor and privilege to work with her," Litvin said.

Additionally, D. Scott Welker, deputy to the ASC commander, praised Misbah's work in his endorsement memorandum to AMC.

"… She has been an excellent ambassador to the overall strategic communication campaign for the use of the DST (Decision Support Tool) system at all levels," Welker wrote. "Her passion for training and improving the system is contagious. …"

The DST is an unclassified, web-based, collaborative tool used by materiel managers to plan and execute Army materiel distribution and redistribution decisions, Misbah explained.

"DST-SM (Sourcing Module) optimizes the equipping process based on Army priorities. DST matches validated, prioritized equipment demands with available Army inventory to create proposed sourcing decisions to fill shortages," she said.

For Misbah, the mission is all about service and support.

"There is power in serving and supporting others ... in our case, we ultimately support the Soldier. I am passionate about doing what I can for the good of the Army," she said.

So what's ahead for Misbah now that she has garnered a Dellamonica award?

"I would like to continue working the LMI mission in the near term, expanding on what we have accomplished as a team over the last year," she said. "My long-term career goals include expanding on my technical background in logistics, perhaps through some type of developmental assignment at HQDA (Headquarters, Department of the Army) or AMC. I strive to continue to develop myself professionally and personally to prepare myself for a leadership role in the future."
