CENTENNIAL, Colo. -- Soldiers with Army Space Support Team 23, 117th Space Battalion (Colorado Army National Guard), were given a sendoff June 25 at the Joint Forces Auditorium, Colorado National Guard State Headquarters. Fellow guard members, U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command personnel, and family members said their goodbyes as ARSST 23 deploys into U.S. Central Command theater of operations. Seeing them off was Lt. Col. Martin Bortolutti, commander of the 117th Space Battalion and Maj. Gen. H. Michael Edwards, the adjutant general for Colorado. ARSST members will provide Warfighter with space-based capabilities such as satellite imagery; surveillance; reconnaissance; early warning of missile threats; and GPS monitoring and accuracy reporting, all of which contribute to situational awareness of the battlefield.
