DORAL, Florida - U.S. Army Garrison Miami is offering a series of forums, hosted by the Continuing Education Center, to present colleges, universities and technical school opportunities to the military public.
Representatives from Polytechnic University are the first to be available in the Garrison Conference Room at 8300 NW 33rd Street, July 9, from 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Polytechnic, which is regionally accredited, will offer six-week accelerated courses, transfer of military credits and online courses, said Reginald Battle, the garrison education director.
The school's proximity to the two headquarters and plethora of classes is a distinct advantage, he said.
"They want to be involved with military service members and their families," Battle said, "and as a liberal arts school, they offer a wide variety of classes."
Polytechnic Miami is a branch campus of the Universidad Politecnica de Puerto Rico. According to the university's information sheet, there is no limit to the number of military credits available, degrees can be completed online, and master's degrees in Engineering Management and Business Administration are available, in addition to the undergraduate programs in Accounting, Management, Computer Science and Information Systems.
"We are also in discussions about reduced tuition for service members," said Battle, who added that this test forum leads up to a major event in November to celebrate American Education Week.
"This is a new relationship we have with Polytechnic," he said, "and I am excited about working with them."
