Guaynabo, PR- Sgt. Ramon Cano, assigned to the 393rd Combat Sustainment Support Command, US Army Reserve-Puerto Rico, surprised his three daughters by unexpectedly appearing in a live TV program, where his family was participating, June 19.
"I have been away from my family since March 2012. It's been a long time," said Cano shortly before entering the TV studio.
The unexpected encounter was coordinated by the producers of the TV show "Pegate al Medio dia" from the leading independent broadcast TV network in Puerto Rico, WAPA TV.
Cano secretly returned to Puerto Rico after spending over 16 months away from his family. He collaborated with his wife Silma Soto to pull off the surprise.
The daughters, Veronica, 17, Pamela, 14 and Frances, 13, bursted into tears as soon Cano stepped in the studio still wearing the Multicam Uniform, in what was a clear emotional moment.
"We are very proud of you. You are a hero," said Angelique Burgos, the show's host.
This is the second time Cano has been mobilized. His first tour was in Iraq and just recently finished his tour in Afghanistan.
The Army Reserve-Puerto Rico currently has approximately 400 troops mobilized in the Middle East. Since 2001, the largest US Army Reserve command in the Caribbean has mobilized 5,000 service members in support to military operation in Iraq, Kuwait and Afghanistan, among other countries.
