Join us in celebrating our Army's 238th Birthday!

These Army Birthday activities are open to all DoD personnel:

Monday, 10 June, 1000 - Wreath Laying and Purple Heart Presentation at George Washington's Mount Vernon. The Secretary of the Army and Sergeant Major of the Army will lay a wreath at George Washington's Tomb and host a Purple Heart Presentation Ceremony at George Washington's Mount Vernon, the home of our Nation's first Commander in Chief.

Wednesday, 12 June, 1900 - Twilight Tattoo, Summerall Field, Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall. Pre-ceremony pageantry begins at 1845. This performance is free and open to the public. Grass seating is available, and blankets or lawn chairs are permitted.

Thursday, 13 June, 1100 - Army Birthday Pentagon Cake Cutting Ceremony, Pentagon Center Courtyard. The Secretary of Defense, Secretary of the Army, and Chief of Staff of the Army will make remarks. A pre-ceremony concert by the U.S. Army Band begins at 1030 and the official ceremony begins at 1100. The Washington Nationals Racing Presidents will attend, and the Department of the Army Welfare Fund, a nonappropriated fund activity, will provide hot dogs and hamburgers in celebration of our HQDA Family. In the event of inclement weather, the cake cutting ceremony will take place in the Pentagon Auditorium.

Friday, 14 June, 0700 - HQDA Staff Run, Summerall Field, Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall. Formation is at 0640, rain or shine. Event options include a 3-mile run or 1 mile walk. Soldiers are expected to participate, DA Civilians are invited to participate, and DA contractors are invited to participate (non-billable hours). Dress: Army Improved Physical Fitness Uniform in accordance with AR 670-1 (without reflective belt) or Service equivalent for military, and white shirt/dark shorts for civilians and contractors. Shuttle service will be provided from the Pentagon's South Parking Lot (Lane 19) to Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall (Henry Gate) from 0530-0630 before the run and immediately afterwards. Friday, 14 June, 1430 - Wreath Laying at Arlington National Cemetery. The Secretary of the Army, Chief of Staff of the Army, and Sergeant Major of the Army will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns in recognition of the Army's 238th Birthday. This event is open to the public.

EXTRA NOTE: Friday, 14 June, 1000 & 1200 - In addition to the events in Washington, DC, the Vice Chief of Staff of the Army will participate in a cake cutting event in Times Square and the Army Birthday Afternoon Show in Bryant Park, New York City.
