ANNISTON ARMY DEPOT, Ala. -- Brig. Gen. Kevin O'Connell, the commanding general of Joint Munitions Command, toured Anniston Munitions Center May 13.

"This was our chance to explain to our higher headquarters all the things we do here," said Lt. Col. David Schmitt, commander of ANMC, explaining the tour consisted of ANMC's unique capabilities.

Areas visited included the demilitarization pit, the Multiple Launch Rocket System Facility and a storage site for Terminal High Altitude Area Defense missiles.

During O'Connell's tour, the group paused at two newly constructed storage facilities, which are capable of storing a variety of munitions slated for demolition.

"These projects have been in the works for a while," said Schmitt. "They provide the demolition range with secure storage and will greatly improve our capacity."

O'Connell said he was pleased with the work and the workforce he saw at Anniston, including employees who recently participated in a THAAD missile mission.

"The ANMC workforce is a very impressive, professional team that has a strategic impact in support of combatant commanders in the defense of the American people and our interests," said O'Connell.

The JMC commander also praised ANMC for its partnerships with outside agencies, including the Missile Defense Agency, the Aviation and Missile Command and other organizations.

"The workforce here has performed these strategic missions as part of the overall US Army mission and they are critical in support of our nation's defense," said O'Connell.
