ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. - The 2013 APG Armed Forces Day festivities kicked off with the Armed Forces Day Golf Tournament at Ruggles Golf Course May 13.

More than 33 teams consisting of more than 130 golfers registered for the event which included a continental breakfast and buffet luncheon for all players.

Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. James Ervin led the award ceremony, presenting awards to the top finishers and to the event's Hero on the Home Front.

Hero on the Home Front

The Hero on the Home Front award for the Armed Forces Day Golf Tournament was Steven Overbay, a BRAC Coordinator with the Chesapeake Science & Security Corridor. Overbay was selected for his record of focusing significant time, talents and attention while seeking solutions to transportation challenges within the APG community. He helped to conceptualize and stand up the APG-CSSC Transportation Center located in the APG North (Aberdeen) recreation center and continues to explore alternative solutions through partnerships inside and outside the gate to mitigate traffic congestion.

Overbay said he was humbled by the award.

"It is truly an honor to be recognized as a 2013 Hero on the Home Front. The opportunity to work with APG leadership on transportation initiatives that support the 22,000 APG employees accessing the installation is extremely fulfilling. This partnership is critical to the continued success of our defense community."
