REDSTONE ARSENAL, AL (May 13, 2013) -- Deputy to the Commanding General, United States Army Aviation Missile Command (AMCOM), Ms. Mary "Cathy" Dickens received the Award for Exceptional Civilian Service today in the Bob Jones Auditorium, Sparkman Center.
Michael Hutchison, Deputy to the Commanding General of United States Army Contracting Command presided over the ceremony.
"When E.F. Hutton talks, people listen; when Cathy talks people listen," Hutchison said. "They listen to Cathy because she is a true leader, self assured, and confident. She truly cares about the workforce and recognizes the importance of balancing work and home."
Dickens said that she is truly blessed to working with people who are true patriots.
"Every day they exceed my expectations and overcame impossibilities," Dickens said "Any success that I have achieved is the direct result from the blessing of the Lord and my family. Thank you for what you all have done. Army Strong!"
Dickens became the Deputy to the Commanding General, AMCOM Monday, May 6, 2013 after serving as the Executive Director, United States Army Contracting Command-Redstone, where she managed and directed the contract award acquisition program of $25 billion annually, and the administration of more than $110 billion in active contracts.
She has also served as the top acquisition authority for contracting and co-positions for the Army Contracting Command-Redstone, Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command, and the Aviation and Missile Command.
In terms of Army aviation programs, she directed the execution of a $1.9 billion Fort Rucker contract for the maintenance and support of more than 600 aircraft in support of the training mission, and more than $15 billion in contract awards for critical aviation systems that include the Apache, Chinook, Black Hawk, Unmanned Aircraft Systems, Air Warrior, and Light Utility Helicopters. In addition, she managed the awarding of a $11.7 billion Black Hawk multi-year contract for 650 Army, Navy, and foreign military sales helicopters.
Dickens was involved in the awarding of Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System contract at a savings of more than $44 million over a five-year period, and a savings of $900 million in research and development costs associated with Patriot missile production contracts valued at more than $6.5 billion. She was involved in the awarding of the Hellfire II missile contract valued at $82.3 million and $7 billion in contracts to modernize and maintain TOW, Javelin, Hydra, Hawk and other legacy systems for U.S. and foreign military partners.
Dickens was chosen as the Redstone Arsenal 2013 Department of the Army Civilian of the Year by the Redstone-Huntsville Chapter of the Association of the U.S. Army, April 3, 2013.
Also in the Monday ceremony, Dickens received the Army Aviation Association of America's Order of Saint Michael which recognizes those who have contributed significantly to the promotion of Army Aviation in ways that stand out in the eyes of the recipient's seniors, subordinates, and peers.
Several dignitaries and senior military officials attended the event, including Maj. Gen. Lynn Collyar, AMCOM Commander and Maj. Gen. 'Tim' Crosby, Program Executive Officer, Aviation.
