FORT BENNING, Ga., (May 15, 2013) -- Looking for something to do this week? The Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation is hosting a carnival that is open to the public May 16-19 at Stewart-Watson Field.
The carnival will feature more than 30 rides.
Active-duty Soldiers and their Family members will receive a wristband for unlimited rides from 3 to 10 p.m. May 16 in honor of Soldier and Family Appreciation Day.
The carnival will also be open from 5 to 11 p.m. May 17, 1 p.m. to midnight May 18 and noon to 4 p.m. May 19.
On May 16, the carnival will culminate with a fireworks show.
Soldier and Family Appreciation Day, Bridget Siter, publicity specialist for MWR said, is a chance to throw a "great block party" when most of the Soldiers are home from deployment. This is the first time Fort Benning has hosted a carnival on Soldier and Family Appreciation Day.
When Soldiers return home from deployments, Siter said, MWR events are a way for Soldiers to reconnect with their Families, as well as thank them for their service.
"You don't need an excuse to say 'thank you,'" she said.
In order to receive the free wristband, you must have a military or dependent ID, according to a press release from MWR. Others can purchase $1 tickets per ride or buy a wristband, which grants unlimited rides. No pets or alcohol is allowed.
