DAVENPORT, Iowa -- The Army Sustainment Command received a proclamation from Davenport Mayor Bill Gluba and the City Council May 8 at city hall.
The proclamation acknowledged May as Military Appreciation Month and encouraged citizens to display the U.S. flag to recognize the valor of veterans and the sacrifices made by military personnel and their families.
Representing ASC, headquartered at nearby Rock Island Arsenal, Ill., was Brig. Gen. Duane Gamble, deputy commanding general, and Sgt. Maj. Keith Jones, Distribution Management Center, ASC.
During the visit, Gamble addressed the city council during an evening session. Gamble thanked Gluba and the city council for the proclamation for recognizing military members and their service. He also said it was honor to receive the proclamation on behalf of ASC and to serve the nation.
In 1999, Congress passed a resolution proclaiming May as National Military Appreciation Month, calling for all Americans to remember those who gave their lives in the defense of freedom. The resolution also honors all Armed Forces service members who have served and are currently serving, with the support of their families.
