NEW WINDSOR, N.Y. -- Brig. Gen. David L. Weeks, a native of Tallulah, La., relinquished command of 411th Engineer Brigade, 412th Theater Engineer Command, to Col. John P. Constable, a native of Watertown, in a change of command ceremony held here April 5 at the Sgt. Dima Army Reserve Center.
Maj. Gen. William M. Buckler, Jr., commanding general of 412th TEC, presided over the ceremony and praised Weeks' past accomplishments and Constable's future potential as the new commander of 411th Eng. Bde.
Buckler pointed to the brigade's recent deployment in Afghanistan as a true testament to the ougoing commander's outstanding leadership.
Weeks did an excellent job in not only preparing the unit for its mission in Afghanistan, but also in command and control of more than 5,000 service members and all engineering operations in the country....a premiere job for an engineer officer leading a brigade, said Buckler.
Weeks will move on to become the deputy commanding general of 416th Theater Engineer Command in Darien, Illinois, a move that according to Buckler "will bring further solidarity of engineer officers not only in the Army Reserve but across the world."
In his farewell speech, Weeks said he was honored for the opportunity to command and serve with the 'Brigade of Choice' Soldiers during his four years of leadership. He thanked the Soldiers, Col. John R. Seeley, and Family members for their sacrifice, dedicated service and unwavering support over the years. Although sad to leave, Weeks is confident, however, that the brigade will do just fine with Constable at the helm.
"Colonel Constable is truly qualified and the right man for the job. He played an instrumental role in our successes here and in Afghanistan," said Weeks, a sentiment echoed by Buckler during his special remarks. Constable served as the brigade's chief of staff prior to taking command.
