WIESBADEN, Germany - Units and agencies were recognized for their outstanding efforts during the 2012 Combined Federal Campaign-Overseas in a ceremony in the Tony Bass Fitness Center April 12.

Garrison leaders Col. David Carstens and Command Sgt. Maj. Sa'eed Mustafa joined Capt. Jennifer Glover, garrison campaign coordinator, in thanking the many Soldiers and civilians who helped raise more than $307,000.

"Thanks to all of you - first of all for your generosity," said Carstens, pointing out that despite challenging economic times, Americans as a whole continue to donate generously.

"The Combined Federal Campaign helps so many organizations around the world that are helping people," said Carstens.

"We are a nation of givers," he added, saying the United States donates more globally than any one nation, "or nations combined."

Glover explained that the CFC grew out of a 1940s federal workplace charity fundraising effort that wasn't formally sanctioned until 1961 when President John F. Kennedy signed Executive Order 10927. It has since grown to become an annual tradition whereby federal employees have an opportunity once a year to support the charities of their choice.

During the ceremony 22 local units and agencies were honored for outstanding participation and financial support.

Those receiving Platinum Awards included: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Europe District; 409th Contracting Support Battalion; Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden; Wiesbaden Middle School; Company A, 24th Military Intelligence Battalion; and the Warrior Transition Unit.

Gold Awards went to: Company C, 24th MI Battalion; Andrews Federal Credit Union; Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 214th Aviation Regiment; Department of Defense Education Activity Europe; and Company B, 2nd MI Battalion.

Units and agencies earning Silver Awards were: Company B, 24th MI Battalion; Company D, 1-214th Aviation Regiment; the Army and Air Force Exchange Service-Europe; and Headquarters and Headquarters Support Company, 24th MI Battalion.

Bronze Award winners were: HHC, 2nd Signal Brigade; U.S. Army Europe (Forward); HHC, 66th MI Brigade; Community Bank Wiesbaden Branch; Wiesbaden Veterinary Clinic; 102nd Signal Battalion; and HHC, 5th Signal Command.

Glover said she looks forward to even more participation in the 2013 effort, scheduled for this autumn. (Editor's note: For more photos see http://www.flickr.com/photos/wpao/sets/72157633229896500)
