Washington DC -- Hon. Katherine Hammack, assistant secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy and Environment, joined Federal New Radio's "In Depth" program to discuss why the Army is asking Congress for another Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) round.
The Department of Defense is on the road to a leaner force. The 2014 Presidential budget request includes programs that would shrink the force. With fewer people, the Army wants to reduce infrastructure to match support needs.
The Army Highlights :
- The Army supports the President's request for a FY15 BRAC round and urges Congress's support.
- As Army forces decline, facility overhead and civilian support staff must decline to avoid distortions in equipment, training, and maintenance.
- When the Army has more buildings than needed, scarce resources will be spread so thinly that our installation services will suffer.
- These negative effects could cause Soldiers and Families to leave.
