YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea Aca,!" Summer weather in Korea is wet, hot and humid, and can be dangerous. As we enter Monsoon season, there are some important actions you need to take.

With a great amount of rainfall occurring in a short amount of time, we face the same challenges year after year with flood-prone areas across the Garrison.

In the past, monsoon rains have caused injuries and millions of dollars in damage in U.S. Forces Korea.

The Garrison has been proactive in mitigating the threat near the South Post Visitor Center Gate and the Main Post Bowling Center. Last year, we had extensive renovations that included improving drainage. The parking areas near the Bowling Center and Moyer Community Activity Center have improved drainage as well.

The key takeaway here is preparedness. Unit commanders and Garrison residents need to have eyes on all turtle ditches and drainage systems in their areas. Clear out debris and ensure the water has a place to go.

When the rains begin, the water has to go some place. Make sure you take time to consider where water will gather and how you could clear a path.

Off post there are even more challenges. The Han River swells each year during monsoon season. The lower level of the Banpo Bridge - the double-decker bridge near the Yongsan Transportation Motor Pool - experiences Han River flooding every year. The potential for flash floods is great.

Rain requires drivers to lower their speed and drive more carefully. Exercise extreme caution. During summer, we also need to be aware of hot weather injuries. The wet bulb readings will drive what Soldiers can do during hot weather training.

Keep the U.S. Army Garrison-Yongsan Web site bookmarked. We will regularly update the readings on our site.

Finally, remember to look out for each other and let's get through the summer with zero injuries or damage to our equipment and facilities.
