YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea -- There was a pool shark in the water at the R&R Bar and Grill on U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan last Friday…Or was it actually a spider running the table?

World renowned champion Jeanette Lee, the 'Black Widow,' accepted an invitation from the Directorate of Family and MWR (FMWR) to showcase her amazing billiard talent here, April 5. Lee is a strong supporter of service members, families and civilians deployed around the world, and said she was happy to make the trip to the Penninsula.

"I wanted to come out and show a little appreciation to the troops for what they do every day," Lee said. "I hope to inspire the Soldiers to keep believing in themselves and reach for their goals."

During her visit to Yongsan, the Black Widow demonstrated some trick shots, played a few challenge matches with fans and signed autographs for those who attended.

"I really enjoyed having the opportunity to shoot pool with one of the best players in the world," said Travis L. Moncrieff, a communication specialist from 501st Military Intelligence Brigade. "This really is a great morale booster for me."

According to the Women's Professional Billiard Association (WPBA), Lee is currently ranked the 3rd best pool player in the world. Her other milestones include: 2012 Women's Professional Billiards Association Hall of Fame Inductee; Consistently ranked as one of the Most Powerful in the sport by Billiards Digest; Currently Ranked 3rd in the WORLD by the WPBA; Formerly Ranked Number One in the World; Winner of more than 30 National and International Titles; 2008 and 2009 Empress Cup Champion; 2007 Skins Billiard Champion; 2004 International Trick Shot Champion and the WPBA Florida Classic Hard Rock Casino Winner; 2003 Tournament of Champions Winner; and 2001 The World Games Gold Medalist.

Lee's list of career accomplishments is very impressive, but her personal achievements and obstacles she has overcome bring her the most pride. She was diagnosed with Scoliosis at age 13, and has endured ten surgeries to strengthen her back with an implanted steel rod in her spine. She continues to be a National Spokesperson for the Scoliosis Association, Inc. and an inspiration to women everywhere.

"She is an idol for all the women in the world to keep pushing toward their goals and never give up," said Bo-young Sturycz, who was one of the lucky ones who challenged Lee on the pool table. After her victory, Sturycz received a special gift from the champion, the Black Widows' autographed billiards glove she used during the game.

"It was definitely a breathtaking experience to play Jeanette Lee," Sturycz said. "During our match, I was very nervous, but having the opportunity to win her glove was worth the challenge."

Lee's visit was sponsored by Henry S. Park, CEO of Kan Marketing. For more information about Jeanette Lee and many photos of her accomplishments, visit her at www.facebook.com/jeanetteleetheblackwidow.
