FORT BENNING, Ga., (June 8, 2016) -- The weekend got off to a great start when Warrior Outreach Inc. hosted its semi annual golf tournament June 3rd at the Fort Benning Golf Course.

Warrior Outreach was founded to help Soldiers and Families adjust to life after traumatic experiences and separations from Family due to deployment.

"A lot of these Soldiers have challenges. We don't know what's going on in their life. We just want to make their lives easier," said retired Command Sgt. Maj. Sam Rhodes, president and founder of Warrior Outreach Inc.

Open to the public, competitors were treated to complimentary food, music, and golf.

Austin Cox, retired medical officer and member of Warrior Outreach since 2007, spoke highly of the event.

"I get to meet new guys and hear their stories. Talking to most civilians, they say that they try to support you, which is cool, but it takes another Soldier who has been through things to really understand what you're talking about and understand what you're going through," said Cox.

Prizes were awarded for first, second, and third places, closest to the pin, and to competitors with the longest drive on two specific holes.

"We're about taking care of veterans and making them see that we care about them. It's an opportunity to get a lot of veterans and their Families out to enjoy a day when they won't have to worry about stress and have a great time," said Rhodes.

First place were Jim Fowler, Danny Wilson, Freddie Manning, and Bill Morgan. Second place were Bernie Dailey, Robert Antososkow, Tom Hiller, and Doug Stephens. Third place were Jesse Tovar, Don Eckis, Mulford Waldrop, and Mitch Waters.

Tom Hiller achieved the longest drive on the Bradley Course. Gerald Nelson achieved the longest drive on the Marshall Course. Richard Turner was closest to the pin on the Marshall Course and Dwight Miller was closest to the pin on the Bradley Course.
