FORT KNOX, Ky., April 28, 2011 -- Active duty and active Guard-Reserve lieutenant colonels and majors interested in becoming professors of military science must have their master's or higher degree by May 31, 2011, to be considered for positions in the August board at U.S. Army Human Resources Command.

The U.S. Army Cadet Command Professor of Military Science centralized selection board will convene at Human Resources Command Aug. 23-24, 2011. Selected officers can expect to report for duty before the start of the 2012-2013 academic year.

Interested officers must also have completed Intermediate Level Education or Command and General Staff College, have recently deployed in support of Operations Enduring or Iraqi Freedom or New Dawn, have broad experience in command and staff positions, demonstrate moral attributes and personal traits to serve in a position of prestige in an academic environment, meet Army standards of military bearing and appearance, and be able to serve a three-year tour.

Each volunteer must be eligible for a permanent change of station for summer 2012. Officers should update their Officer Record Brief, DA photo, and ensure their undergraduate and graduate transcripts are in their Official Military Personnel File no later than Aug. 1, 2011.

The Professor of Military Science selection board has averaged between 250 to 350 professors a year for four years, according to Phil Ayer, acting chief, Personnel Management Division, Cadet Command, Fort Knox.

Officers meeting these qualifications must provide their branch assignment officers a preference sheet by June 15, 2011, to begin the Professor of Military Science board process.

Officers may download the fiscal year 2012 Professor of Military Science Board preference sheet from the Cadet Command website at: http://www.cadetcommand.army.mil/info-for-cadre-staff.html, which also lists projected summer 2012 PMS vacancies.

Any questions may be directed to the email address: PMSBoard@usacc.army.mil.
