I cannot overemphasize how important this issue is to me. Every life lost to suicide is a tragedy to our families, to our units and to our Army ... We are a resilient Army, and we are committed to building our individual and collective strength -- physically, emotionally, socially, spiritually and within our families. You must continue to refine and apply the resiliency skills you learn.

The teams take great pride in invention and leading edge technology development, but what I think the Soldiers appreciate most is that they don't have to be burdened with technology. To them the products are easy to use and they can concentrate on that job and not the technology. Comprehensive Soldier and Family Fitness

What is it?

The Comprehensive Soldier and Family Fitness (CSF2) program is an enduring effort, committed to developing and sustaining a new Army culture of total fitness, increased psychological health, and resilience, in order to enhance the performance of the entire Army community. CSF2 provides Soldiers, family members, and Army civilians with the resources and skills necessary to cope with adversity and thrive throughout their lives.

The program is committed to enhancing Soldier resilience and coping skills by using an all-inclusive approach to fitness and focusing on the five dimensions of strength (physical, emotional, family, spiritual, and social). CSF2 provides Army community members with the means to assess strengths and to grow in all aspects of fitness, be it through Master Resilience Trainers, Comprehensive Resilience Modules, the Global Assessment Tool, Institutional Resilience Training, or Performance Enhancement.

What has the Army done?

CSF2 has created an Army-wide training program dedicated to improving psychological resilience among Soldiers and the entire Army community by improving self-awareness. Having trained more than 11,000 certified Master Resilience Trainers (MRTs), CSF2 uses a train-the-trainer model to ensure that Soldiers, DA civilians, and family members across the Army have access to CSF2 resources, and that a culture of resilience is created. CSF2 has been proven to prevent the hopelessness and helplessness that leads to suicidal gestures, acts, and ideations, and other self-defeating behaviors.

What efforts does the Army plan to continue in the future?

CSF2 is broadening its training efforts to specifically focus on Army families. These efforts have already begun, with pilot programs focused on training Army spouses in the same resilience skills taught to Soldiers. Families that grow together stay together, and by promoting resilience skills with family members, CSF2 expands efforts to create an Army culture of resilience that has a positive impact on every aspect of a Soldier's life.

Why is this important to the Army?

Resilience training equips individuals with the skills necessary to cope in stressful situations, bounce back from adversity. The skills taught through CSF2 are long-lasting, and can help Soldiers, family members, and DA civilians succeed in all aspects of life, with benefits during conflict and times of peace.
