National Resource Directory Web Site: Online Tool for Wounded Warriors, Families Provides Access to Thousands of Services and Resources
What is it?
The National Resource Directory (NRD) is an online tool for wounded, ill and injured servicemembers, veterans, their families and those who support them. It provides access to more than 11,000 services and resources at the national, state and local levels to support recovery, rehabilitation and community reintegration.
The NRD is a collaborative partnership among the Departments of Defense, Labor and Veterans Affairs. The information contained within the NRD is from federal, state and local governmental agencies; veterans service and benefit organizations; non-profit and community-based organizations; academic institutions and professional associations who provide assistance to wounded warriors and their families.
The NRD is part of a larger effort to improve wounded warrior care coordination and access to information on services and resources, key goals identified by both the President's Commission on Care for America's Returning Wounded Warriors (Dole-Shalala Commission) and Title XVI, "Wounded Warrior Matters," of the 2008 National Defense Authorization Act.
Army veteran, Anthony Rainone, calls the NRD "a good resource for military service veterans because it is well organized at the national, state and even local levels. I encourage veterans to access this site to find answers to many questions while veterans transition to civilian life."
What has the Army done?
To better educate Soldiers, families, Army leadership and Army civilians on the NRD, the Army has worked and continues to work closely with NRD leadership to coordinate outreach efforts.
What efforts does the Army plan to coordinate in the future?
The Army will continue its efforts to raise awareness throughout our Army community about NRD resources and their importance for our Army.
Why is the NRD important to the Army?
It is an easy-to-use resource for Soldiers, families, Army civilians and all those who support them for information on:
Benefits & Compensation
Education
Employment & Training
Family & Caregiver Support
Health
Housing & Transportation
