Army Management Staff College Excellence in Education Award
What is it?
The Excellence in Education Award is an annual award program sponsored and managed by the Army Management Staff College (AMSC) and co-sponsored by the Association of the United States Army (AUSA). The award recognizes excellence in education by a unit, school, garrison, or agency for the specified Academic Year. It encourages and rewards education, aggressive and creative professional development programs, and a unique emphasis on lifelong learning. The application deadline for the 2008 EIE submission is Nov. 30. AMSC will be joined by Gen. (Ret.) Gordon B. Sullivan, AUSA president, to present the award at the 4th Annual Leadership Symposium, which is Jan. 27-29, 2009.
What has the Army Done?
In January 2007, AMSC launched the Civilian Education System (CES). CES provides the Army Civilian Corps at all levels the opportunity to develop leadership skills through a progressive and sequential program comprised of a blended learning environment, distributed learning, and resident instruction. AMSC promotes lifelong learning within the college and throughout the Army via formal training, self-development activities, faculty development, research and outreach, CES and Command Program offerings, AMSC News, and its annual leadership symposium.
Why is this important to the Army?
The Excellence in Education Award serves as a catalyst for an Army-wide transformation to improve education and strengthen the concept of lifelong learning. The keys to sustaining an environment of excellence in education are strategic planning, innovation, technology and a continuous assessment of customer needs. Striving for excellence in education strengthens our capability and contributes to improving Army Readiness. The AMSC EIE Award criteria are designed to dispel the notion that education is a single event or class and promote a philosophy that education is a lifelong pursuit that can be influenced and enhanced by the institution or organization.
