"We need to be focused on physical conditioning for combat; not just the Army's physical fitness test. The battlefield is no place for those who fatigue quickly."
- Staff Sgt. Ken Weichert, Tennessee Army National Guard, better known as the fitness guru "Sgt. Ken" in Guard Experience Magazine
Sgt. Ken urges enlisted leaders to stress fitness
Organizational Clothing and Individual Equipment Initiatives
What are the OCIE Initiatives?
HQDA G-4 and other associated organizations have spent the past 18 months developing and implementing initiatives to help Soldiers manage their organizational clothing and individual equipment (OCIE). Listed below are just a few of the successful initiatives. To read about all of them, go to: Army Knowledge Online (AKO) Web site
Why is this important to the Army?
These OCIE initiatives support the Army's efforts to reset the Army and each has improved the way we sustain our Soldiers.
What has the Army done?
- Retention of combat uniforms issued as OCIE
Under new legislation, deployed Soldiers can keep their combat uniforms issued as OCIE. However, deployed Soldiers need to have served in support of contingency operations for at least 30 days. Applicable regulations have been updated to state that combat uniforms issued as OCIE may be retained as transferable, non-recoverable items in the Soldier's clothing hand receipt.
- Review your OCIE on AKO
Soldiers receiving OCIE issues from a Central Issue Facility (CIF) can now access their individual clothing record files by clicking the "My Clothing" link on the AKO main page. Within two hours of implementing this innovative automated OCIE tool, over 800 Soldiers had logged on to the site. Check it now to see your clothing records.
- Keep your issued OCIE between MTOE moves
In 2007, the Army's Retained Issue program allowed Modified Table of Equipment (MTOE) Soldiers to keep their issued OCIE as they move between MTOE units. In addition the Army allowed for a greater amount of issued OCIE to be carried forward from assignment to assignment and turned in upon expiration term of service by increasing the Every Soldier Retention lists (Appendix F, of Common Table of Allowances 50-900).
