SENIOR LEADERS ARE SAYING

"The amazing thing about our United States military is that thousands and thousands of you have signed up knowing full well that we're a nation at war. You decided to put your country ahead of self in many ways." - President George W. Bush, speaking with Soldiers and family members, April 4, at Fort Irwin, California.

TODAY'S FOCUS

Combined Endeavor 07

What is it? COMBINED ENDEAVOR is a EUCOM-sponsored "in the spirit of Partnership for Peace" communications exercise with participating NATO and Partnership for Peace (PfP) nations held 26 April - 10 May 2007. The exercise will identify Command and Control and Communications systems interoperability shortcomings and develop solutions to enhance command, control and communications operations for future exercises or missions. COMBINED ENDEAVOR provides a forum that helps participating PfP nations move closer to NATO and Coalition capabilities, and supports future PfP exercises by testing and proving combined communication and command and control systems. This year USAREUR units will train with military units from Germany and Armenia during the exercise.

What has the Army Done? EUCOM, USAREUR, the 21st Theater Support Command, the 5th Signal Command, and participating units from CONUS-based Army Reserve and Army National Guard have participated in four planning conferences with partnering units from Germany and Armenia to make the Combined Endeavor 07 exercise a success.

What efforts does the Army plan to continue in the future? USAREUR continues to play a large role in PfP exercises and other opportunities to help PfP nations achieve U.S. and NATO operating standards. USAREUR will continue to maintain a robust schedule of theater security engagement activities with countries throughout the EUCOM area of responsibility.

Why is this important to the Army? Developing partners and allies today makes for stronger Coalitions tomorrow. Establishing communications links with Armenia brings NATO and US forces militarily closer to a nation located in a geographically important region of the world. In their vast 92-country area of responsibility, USAREUR and EUCOM lead the way in Coalition building, through Partnership for Peace and other multinational exercises.
