The Army's Soldiers Media Center
The Army's Soldier Media Center (SMC) is the epicenter for collecting, fusing and distributing the products that tell the Army's story. By maximizing the distribution of the Army's public communications, messages and products we will better meet our obligations to inform the American public and our Soldiers about the Army.
This Army better business initiative will enhance the readiness and morale of Soldiers and contribute to an increased national and international understanding of the Army. By consolidating multiple resources, Army Public Affairs is able to amplify the Soldiers and Army civilian stories that demonstrate how we are serving our country.
On 9 November, the Army Broadcasting Service, a combat -recognized field operating agency, will be re-flagged as the Soldiers Media Center, consolidating the following public affairs organizations: Army Broadcasting Service and its American Forces Network components in Europe and Korea, the Army's Command Information Division, Soldiers Magazine, Army Broadcasting Service, Soldiers Radio and Television, Army News Service, the Army's Homepage at Army.mil and the Army portion of Army and Air Force Hometown News Service. This organizational change will improve the sharing of functions across components.
The SMC's primary focus will be on Soldiers and, by extension, their family members and civilians who support the Army. It will maintain a level of communication throughout the Army and external to the Army, which will highlight the Soldier to the public and promote the Soldier. The synchronized efforts by SMC's components will yield timely, relevant and coordinated media content. The SMC will enhance the readiness and morale of Soldiers. By consolidating internal media, community relations and outreach functions into the SMC, the Army will realize best practices, which will enhance communications internally and externally.
Homeland Defense and Security in America Evolving Policy and Strategy for the 21st Century-This conference will focus on the country's preparedness to respond to a catastrophe exceeding the scope of major disaster.
