SENIOR LEADERS ARE SAYING

America's Army remains the pre-eminent land force in the world today. What we need at this time is for Americans to continue to answer the Call to Duty just as they have during the Army's 230 years of service to this nation.

TODAY'S FOCUS

Black Hawk Recapitalization

Corpus Christi Army Depot is DoD's premier facility for aviation repair. Presently, the depot workforce is focused on an important mission for the UH-60 Black Hawk that goes beyond repair - they are recapitalizing the Black Hawk fleet. The Black Hawk is the front-line utility helicopter for the Army and was first fielded in 1978.

The recapitalization program involves:

- Rebuilding and upgrading currently fielded systems to ensure operational readiness and a 'zero-time/zero-mile' system.

- The rebuild aspect consists of restoring systems to like-new condition in appearance, performance, and life expectancy and inserting new technology to improve reliability and maintainability.

- Implementation of Lean Six Sigma at CCAD has generated tremendous savings in terms of time and dollars enabling the workforce to increase Black Hawk recap production from 13 in 2004 to 27 in 2005. They expect to recap 36 next year.
