FM 1: The Army- WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A PROFESSIONAL SOLDIER

The Army's culture has its roots in its traditions and history. Its rich and honorable history of service to the Nation reminds Soldiers of who they are, the cause they serve, and their ties to those who have gone before them.

The Army is a values-based organization. It upholds principles that are grounded in the Constitution and inspire guiding values and standards for its members. These principles are best expressed by the Army Values Soldiers Creed, and Warrior Ethos. Derived from the obligations of the oaths of office, they express the professional competence required of Soldiers and affirm long-standing values within the Army's culture.

The Army Values are the basic building blocks of a Soldier's character.
The Soldiers Creed captures the spirit of being a Soldier and the dedication Soldiers feel to something greater than themselves.
The Warrior Ethos. describes the frame of mind of the professional Soldier.

These values and standards instill in every Soldier the will to win and make great personal sacrifices in selfless service to the Nation.

What is National Preparedness Month?

National Preparedness Month 2005 is being co-sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the American Red Cross. Throughout September, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the American Red Cross will work with a wide variety of organizations, including local, state and federal government agencies and the private sector.
