In describing context, challenges, and priorities - which are neither prescriptive nor all inclusive - this [FY05 Game Plan] is intended to stimulate your thinking, while encouraging initiative and creativity, in acting strategically to deal with the challenges we face.

FY05 ARMY GAME PLAN
The FY05 Game Plan:
- Provides a common perspective of our operating environment.
- Reinforces the strategic intent in the Army Strategic Planning Guidance and Army Campaign Plan.
- Reemphasizes the role leaders play to lead change.
- Adds impetus to change our culture to reflect the realities of our new operating context.
The FY05 Game Plan establishes seven leadership objectives for leading change:
1. Reinforce Our Centerpiece: Soldiers as Warriors
It is the Soldier - fierce, well trained, equipped, and led - who serves as the ultimate expression of the capabilities the Army provides to the Joint Force and to the Nation.
2. Tell the Army story effectively
Strategic communications must be a "force multiplier," which if employed with precision, will assist the Army to meet America's challenges both today and tomorrow.
3. Resource the force to execute its strategic requirements
The Army must seek to resource activities designed for today's and tomorrow's operational and force generation issues.
4. Maintain the viability of the all-volunteer force
We will devote adequate resources to recruit, retain, and train the best quality people that will enable us not only to man the force, but also to generate and support it.
5. Change Army culture to reflect new realities
The greatest challenge to overcoming inertia and enabling change is influencing mindset and culture which has four major dimensions: inculcation of a culture of innovation; realization of the implications of joint, expeditionary warfare; commitment to the ideals of the Warrior Ethos; and promotion of "resiliency."
6. Articulate the strategic rationale for joint and service future capabilities
We must characterize what the Army brings to the fight - working in interdependent fashion with other Services and Agencies - to achieve joint outcomes across the Range of Military Operations.
7. Adapt the institutional Army to meet the needs of the emerging operational Army
The Army Campaign Plan establishes how we will transform. To build a campaign quality Army with joint and expeditionary capabilities, the entity we call the "Institutional Army" must also change.

AUSA, Sony, and the State of California are hosting a "Salute to California Warriors" Soldier Appreciation Day, 11 a.m., at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos, Calif. Lt. Gen. Stephen Boutelle and Sgt. Maj. Thomas Gills will be the senior Army representatives. Calif. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and over 2,000 invitees are expected to attend. The event will also feature Miss America 2005, the "Liberty Belles" from the USO tour, the cast from the movie "Stripes," units from the California National Guard, and the 63rd Regional Readiness Command.
