For the event, they took an Army fitness test, completed the hand grenade assault course, experienced the Engagement Skills Trainer and took a ride (with a simulated rollover) in a Humvee.

Founded by former Chicago columnist Irv Kupcinet in 1945 to honor veterans returning from World War II, the Kups Cruise was a Chicago institution for 50 years, until Kupcinet retired it in 1995.     For the sixth year, the U.S. Army supported the annual NAACP Convention in Detroit, Michigan, Jul. 7-12, 2007. Soldiers from U.S. Army Accessions Command, U.S. Army Recruiting Command and U.S. Army Cadet Command were involved in several events throughout the week. This year, more than 8,000 members, civil rights advocates, volunteers, policy makers, civic, social, academic, church and business leaders attended the convention. The NAACP has won some of the most significant victories in the struggle for racial justice in economic development, healthcare, education, technology and other areas.
