Camellia Austin, site manager for Treat America, is having a bit of a tough day. There are problems with Internet connectivity for the two touch-screen kiosks that allow customers to pay for their food, and one of the kiosks has a malfunctioning printer, so patrons can't retrieve their receipts.

    ROCK ISLAND, ILL. -- (April 12, 2014) Lt. Louis Longman, of Clinton, Iowa -- "Looey" to his affectionate family -- went missing in a storm in a P-38J Lightning fighter plane in 1944 at age 26. His remains were returned to his family in a funeral April 12 at Rock Island National Cemetery. A flight of F-16s, from the North Dakota Air National Guard, flew over the funeral to commemorate the internment, which was given full military honors.

    On Tuesday, Lt. Gen. Patricia McQuistion, deputy commanding general, Army Materiel Command (AMC) and Mr. Gabe Camarillo, principal deputy assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology (ASA ALT) along with other leadership from AMC headquarters, TACOM Life Cycle Management Command, Research, Development and Engineering Command (RDECOM), and The Army National Guard Bureau toured the Rock Island Arsenal Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center (RIA-JMTC). During the three hour tour and briefing, leaders discussed how to ensure RIA-JMTC remains relevant and ready to support the joint warfighter in an environment of decreasing budgets and workload. As the defense budget decreases from a drawdown of two conflicts, the Army�'s only vertically integrated metal manufacturer is looking for ways to ensure that the artisan skill sets remain ready to support the nation.

The purpose of the changes are to promote a safe living and working environment at Arsenal Island and to bring Rock Island Arsenal in compliance with DoD and Army traffic management and enforcement regulations, which are commonly applied at military installations worldwide.

  • Treat America offers new dining experience beginning in April

    ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, ILL. -- (March 21, 2014) People dining at Rock Island Arsenal are in for some new treats -- Treat America, a new contractor is taking over food services at Arsenal facilities. Food operations in buildings 60, 212 and 350 will be closed on April 4 to allow for the transition to the new contractor. The cafeterias in buildings 212 and 350 will reopen for normal business on Monday, April 7. Whereas, the food court in Bldg. 60 will remain closed from April 7 through April 18, for remodeling, and will reopen April 21.

    Beaver Island - UPPER MISSISSIPPI RIVER RESTORATION -- ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PROGRAM (UMRR-EMP) HABITAT REHABILITATION AND ENHANCEMENT PROJECT (HREP) The Rock Island District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) intends to partner with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IA DNR) on a feasibility study identifying and investigating ecosystem restoration opportuinities within Pool 14. The proposed study is located between river mile 513.0-515.5 in the southern portion of Clinton County and includes Beaver Island, Beaver Slough, Grass Slough, and Lower Lake. An open house addressing the initiation of the Ecosystem Restoration Feasibility Study will be held March 26, 2014 between 6 and 8 pm at the Erickson Center, 1401 11th Ave N, Clinton, IA.

The project will support critical infrastructure improvements at the industrial facility that will cut energy use by approximately 35 percent, and generate up to $5.3 million in annual energy and operational savings.
