    ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Ill. -- (Jan. 14, 2016) As a result of Department of Defense guidance, effective Monday, Jan. 18, Rock Island Arsenal will no longer accept Illinois state driver's licenses or identification cards from states that issue licenses or identification cards that are not compliant with the Federal Real ID Act of 2005 as a primary means to obtain a pass to enter the Arsenal. However, those who are not in possession of an approved secondary document, listed below, may still enter Rock Island Arsenal, but only under escort of authorized personnel.

Since 1994, the President of the United States has issued an annual proclamation designating November as National Native American Heritage Month. This year's theme is "Growing Native Leaders: Enhancing Our Seven Generations." Approximately 150 Soldiers and civilians gathered in Heritage Hall at Rock Island Arsenal for a National Native American Heritage Month observance hosted by First Army Nov. 24.

    ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Illinois (Nov. 6, 2015) -- This heating season is the beginning of a transitional year for Rock Island Arsenal. The trusty 100 year old central heating plant and steam distribution system have put in their papers for partial retirement starting this year. We are very grateful for all the personnel of the central steam plant and all who have worked there to make it so reliable to keep us cozy and warm when it gets so cold outside. This will be the last heating season for the coal fired steam plant. In May 2016, the final puff of smoke going up the stacks, and the last steam generation going to the radiators will come to an end.

    ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Ill. -- When Iowa high school students had the undivided attention of Lt. Gen. Michael S. Tucker, First Army commanding general, they asked about his experiences to see how their life would be impacted by joining the Army. "What the general said was so positive and moving," said Kimberly Huerta, a senior at Easton Valley High School in Dubuque, Iowa. "It changed my outlook on the Army and life in general." Tucker sat down with local area high school recruits inside First Army headquarters at Rock Island Arsenal on October 20 to give real world answers and share his past experiences about joining the Army. Tucker joined the Army when the "Be all you can be" slogan was popular. And, that is what you should do, he says. "Take the opportunities and use them to the best of your ability so that you can be all you CAN be."

    ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Illinois (July 30, 2015) -- More than 250 guests, visitors and Rock Island Arsenal employees gathered July 30 in a ceremony dedicating the opening of The Wall That Heals, on display at the Arsenal through Aug. 2. The display is part of a series of Arsenal events commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the War in Vietnam. The Wall That Heals is a 50-percent scale replica of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington D.C. Veterans attending the event received a certificate and a 50th anniversary button recognizing them for their service.
