    In recent comments at the annual meeting of the Association of the United States Army, Gen. Mark Milley, Chief of Staff of the Army, took the time to reinforce his top three priorities for the Army. "Readiness is my number one priority," Milley said. "And as long as I'm Chief of Staff of the Army there's not going to be another one." That said, it appears the Army Reserve took that priority to heart.

    Major General Mark T. McQueen is the Commanding General of the108th Training Command (IET) headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he is responsible for more than 8,000 Soldiers in 44 states and Puerto Rico. The 108th is the sole force provider of Drill Sergeants within the Army Reserve. The command also maintains a Division of instructors and trainers dedicated to assisting with the Cadet Summer Training missions for both ROTC at Fort Knox, Kentucky and also the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York.

    The Army's best trained noncommissioned officers descended on Fort Jackson, S.C., Sept. 8-11, to compete for the prestigious title of the 2014 U.S. Army Drill Sergeant of the Year. The competitors included two U.S. Army Reserve Drill Sergeants, Staff Sgt. Christopher Croslin from the 95th Training Division (IET) and Sgt. 1st Class Alex Montero from the 98th Training Division (IET). Only one winner will be selected from each service component.

    Soldiers by definition are no strangers to risks, but it's the unnecessary ones some are taking while riding motorcycles that has Army officials concerned. There have already been 23 confirmed motorcycle fatalities in the latest statistics from Oct. 1, 2013, to June 12, 2014, according to Army statistics. The 28 percent increase from the 18 motorcycle-related deaths from this same period a year ago is troubling enough, but the "staggering" number of noncommissioned officers involved in these preventable accidents has been even more disconcerting.

    In January 2014, the U.S. Army Combat Readiness/Safety Center released a 19-question survey tailored specifically for respondents to report their perceptions of distracted driving, awareness of hazards and potential legal implications, and whether they have knowingly participated in any activity that distracted them while driving. A random sample of 1,099 Soldiers was selected for the survey, and some findings are outlined below.
