    Large crowds filled the multi-tiered parking garage, parking lots and curb side spots surrounding the Marine Corps Exchange during its Nov. 17-20 grand opening weekend. Shoppers were lured by samples, freebies, sales and vendor demonstrations that showcased top-of-the--line products in a top-notch shopping complex.

    U. S. Army Special Forces Command's Green Berets displayed the weaponry, communications, intelligence, medicine and unconventional training they use in overseas military missions training. The modular demonstrations were a part of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy's official approval of the Special Force's wearing of the green beret. The anniversary commemoration also included a wreath laying at the JFK grave at Arlington National Cemetery and a luncheon at the Fort Myer Officers Club.

    In an effort to relieve confusion and anxiety that children feel during times of deployment, Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit organization behind television shows "Sesame Street" and "The Electric Company," created a new digital initiative to reach out to military children facing long-term separation from their parents. The initiative will be distributed through various military channels, including the Department of Defense Education Activity.

    Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall colleagues, friends and dignitaries gathered at Spates Community Club to recognize NCO of the Year Staff Sgt. Michael Williams and Soldier of the Year Spc. Sarah Deckert. The annual awards went to Deckert, who is a food service specialist for the Pentagon Army Executive Dining Facility, and to Williams, the assistant NCOIC of the Primary Care department at Andrew Rader Clinic.

    Commanding Headquarters and Service Battalion, Headquarters Marine Corps, Henderson Hall for little under two years, Col. Roarke L. Anderson relinquished his command to Col. Ira M. Cheatham aboard Henderson Hall on July 14. Lt. Gen. Willie J. Williams, Director of Marine Corps Staff, officiated the ceremony attended by the Headquarters Company Battalion, Family and friends.
