The words popped up again and again as senior Guard leaders discussed how to make the most of limited quantities of both to provide the readiness training their units want and need. "Training readiness is not an option. If you've got the structure, you'd better get it trained and ready," said Lt. Gen. Michael Tucker, commanding general of First Army, the unit whose primary mission is the training of Army National Guard and Army Reserve units.

    The 2014 U.S. Army Forces Command Soldier/Non-commissioned Officer Best Warrior competition kicked off with a Sunday evening "icebreaker" at Fort Bragg, N.C., giving the competitors a chance to get acquainted and interact with senior leaders from the command. The annual competition, being held Aug. 25 - 28, will put 21 Soldiers and non-commissioned officers to the test in a variety of challenging events, including: a physical fitness test, M-16 rifle qualification, land navigation, a foot march, and a stress-inducing appearance before a board of command sergeants major. The winners will be announced during an end of competition banquet, Thursday evening, Aug. 28.

    FORT HOOD, Texas -- Task Force 34 conducted the first Aviation Training Exercise for approximately one week under the 166th Aviation Brigade here after two months of post-mobilization training. The 34th Combat Aviation Brigade of the Minnesota National Guard, is the first Guard combat aviation brigade to conduct an ATX at Fort Hood, according to Col. Christopher E. Albus, commander of the 166th Avn. Bde. It was the result of extensive coordination and collaboration with multiple agencies and units.

    Soldiers of the Staunton-based 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team are getting valuable training and feedback from Soldiers of 188th Infantry Brigade Task Force, First Army Division East, a U.S. Army Forces Command branch, during the 10-day eXportable Combat Training Capability rotation at Fort Pickett until June 26. XCTC is designed to train and validate platoons on tasks that support offensive and defensive operations in daylight and hours of limited visibility.
