    PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. - Monterey Road Child Development Center children kicked off the Month of the Military Child celebration with a parade around the center at Ord Military Community April 1. Children decorated hats and white T-shirts earlier in the week and wore them as well as an assortment of other festive garb as they paraded around the facility. Various activities are planned throughout the month at the Presidio's Child, Youth and School Services organizations. One big event for the community is the Celebrating Military Children extravaganza at the Stilwell Community Center on OMC 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. April 24.     PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. - The fifth annual Big Sur Mud Run brought over 2,000 participants, more than previous years, to the Freeman Stadium of California State University Monterey Bay in Seaside March 27. This yearAca,!a,,cs military team winner was the Army Fluid Run team, consisting of Jeremy Wilbur, Brock Jas, Timothy McGuire William Funderburk and Chris Folk. Military female and male winners were Maureen Scott and Rory Redding, respectively. The Mud Run, a Big Sur Marathon event sponsored by the Presidio of Monterey Garrison and CSUMB, is an approximately five-mile trail which included obstacles and four mud pits. Presidio Soldiers and Marines were on hand to motivate runners through the obstacles and mud. The event is a non-profit run in which proceeds go to local charities.

A smaller tree was lit inside during the observance but the outside tree was also lit up for the participants when they departed the chapel. Col. Sue Ann Sandusky, the commandant of the DLIFLC, officially welcomed all and was assisted by the younger attendees in turning the lights on.

    When students of Pashto grew tired of having their seven-pound dictionary give them mistranslations of words they looked up, they found a simple solution - they wrote their own program that would handle multiple entries for several meanings of the same word. "We got tired of the dictionary's never being accurate and constantly getting us in trouble in class," said Lance Cpl. Lauren Kohls, who has been studying the language for five and a half months and has the highest listening score in the class.
