FORT KNOX, Ky. - Holidays bring to mind a number of visuals: lights strewn across the Christmas tree, landscapes covered in white and mistletoe hanging from doorways. For 32 children from the Sunrise Children's Home and Crossroads Boy's Home, part of their Christmas came early Wednesday with the sight of camouflage patterns worn by Soldiers from Fort Knox.

Recently, 7th Sustainment Brigade hosted military reporter Mike Gooding, WVEC, as he filmed and interviewed Soldiers with the 567th ICTC (Inland Cargo Transfer Company) as they prepare to deploy to Afghanistan in February. The coverage included stand-up interviews in the company area (outside) and B-roll footage in the Battalion Motor Pool of battle-drill exercises with HUMVEES.

Multi-service women work, work out together

Three women from different services have come together to make a difference in the expansion and sustainment of U.S. forces in Afghanistan. Naval supply officer Lt. j. g. Monica Rojas with the 30th Naval Construction Regiment, Air Force civil engineer 1st Lt. Rebecca Bucher with the 777th Expeditionary "Prime BEEF" Squadron, and Army logistics Capt. Sarah Comeau with the 45th Sustainment Brigade met each other while deployed here. The three servicemembers have formed a bond, and now work closely in all matters regarding procurement, logistics and construction projects.

Volunteering at the Wayside Christian Mission was just one of many ways the 3d ESC has sought to give back to a surrounding community that supported them during their 15-month deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Sustainers host Strong Bonds retreat

FORT KNOX, Ky. - Members of Fort Knox's 3d Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) and 233rd Transportation Company attended a Strong Bonds retreat Nov. 6-8 at Louisville's Galt House Hotel & Suites. The Strong Bonds retreat was organized and implemented by the 3d ESC chaplain's office and offered ways to increase individual Soldier and Family readiness and resiliency through relationship education and skills training. The retreats are planned quarterly and give single Soldiers and couples the opportunity to relax while receiving training.

Sustainers honored at retirement ceremony

FORT KNOX, Ky. - Master Sergeant Gerardo Flores and Sergeant 1st Class Daniel R. Wright of the 3d Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) were two of eight Soldiers to officially hang up their boots during the United States Army Armor Center and Fort Knox Retirement Ceremony here Thursday at the Fort Knox Leaders Club. The ceremony marked the end of successful careers for both Flores and Wright, who served 26 and 22 years respectively.

<b>What is it' </b> Strong Bonds is a unit-based, chaplain-led program which assists commanders in building individual resiliency by strengthening the Army family. The core mission of the Strong Bonds program is to increase individual Soldier and family member readiness through relationship education and skills training. Strong Bonds includes four subprograms applied across the Army Force Generation model: single-Soldier, couple, family, and deployment. Strong Bonds is conducted in an offsite retreat format in order to maximize the training effect. The retreat or "get away" provides a fun, safe, and secure environment in which to address the impact of relocations, deployments and military lifestyle stressors.

Higdon, the 3d Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) assistant chief of staff, operations, threw out the ceremonial first-pitch for the Cincinnati Reds game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Oct. 3 at Cincinnati's Great American Ball Park. Higdon's opportunity came in front of 25,000 fans, including family and friends from the Fort Knox community, who celebrated his and his unit's safe return from Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

"Fort Knox" strip inspired by post

The story is about a comic strip that's based on the illustrator's real life experiences as an Army brat. He loved living at Fort Knox and loved the winter weather he knew little about as a kid. The strip is named 'Fort Knox' and the characters in the strip are based on Boscacci's real Army family, although his father is now retired from active duty.

The fallen hero lay in a flag-draped case at the walkway's beginning. Paying their last respects to the one who gave all, troops saluted this hero. Faces somber, the pallbearers, his former comrades, shouldered their heavy burden and slowly marched past the long rows of servicemembers to the waiting plane.
