155th Inland Cargo Transfer Company keeps it moving in Afghanistan

Soldiers assigned to the 155th ICTC, 10th Transportation Battalion, 7th Sustainment Brigade began arriving to Afghanistan June 29 under the leadership of Capt. Tera Autrey and First Sgt. Anthony Sanders, with a non-stop operational tempo the unit is working consistently, leaving its mark on each of its operational bases.

Task Force Resolute provides Humanitarian Assistance in Afghanistan

The coalition forces mission in Afghanistan is often an uphill battle. Kinetic Warfare is only one of the many challenges that hinder the goal of leaving Afghans with a secure and stable environment. Drought, earthquakes and floods, nature's obstacles, have an added impact on the local population's already austere way of life. The KAF Humanitarian Assistance yard is one way coalition forces are able to fight the effects of natural disasters. The yard supplies emergency goods for crisis situations.

Marc Spencer, rear detachment deputy commanding officer, 7th Sustainment Brigade a bundle of Valentine's Day cards Feb. 14 in front of the brigade's headquarters. The cards were made by the post's Ladies Auxiliary Junior Girls Unit and given to Soldiers of the brigade who recently returned home from deployment operations. Spencer, who a short time ago returned from a 12-month deployment to Afghanistan as the commander of the brigade's 382nd Transportation Theater Opening Element, Special Troops Battalion, expressed great thanks to the auxiliary's Junior Girls for taking the time to make the cards and bring his Soldiers a bit of Valentine's Day cheer. "Happy Valentine's Day to our American heroes," said Guillory as she handed the bundle of brightly colored cards to Spencer. "We are here to support you and the entire community of veterans stationed at Fort Eustis."

The visit began with the brigade's deployment ceremony at Anderson Field House and was immediately followed by a deployment brief in the 7th Sus. Bde. conference room. The 'Resolute' leadership and staff detailed the brigade's plans for their upcoming deployment, including the mission sets for both forward and rear personnel. Bromberg gave advice on deployment and his personal lessons learned.

Taking teaching to the highest level

Instructor certification programs are designed to ensure military students obtain the necessary knowledge to accomplish their missions. The culmination of the certification process is in obtaining the title Master Instructor, which is no easy task, especially in the Ordnance School. Staff Sgt. Sidney Galloway, Basic Electronics Maintenance instructor, Armament and Electronics Maintenance Training Department, reached that pinnacle in his quest for excellence, and was presented his Master Instructor certification during a ceremony Dec. 9. He joins the ranks of only 52 Master Instructors in the Ordnance Corps and is the first to earn the title at Fort Lee.

The new training ground resembles an all-terrain vehicle park with roads winding back and forth across the landscape lined with old cars and broken equipment. Strategically placed mud and water mire pits are scattered throughout the training area, affording students an opportunity to practice recovery in almost any situation. Here at the Ordnance School's new Vehicle Recovery Training Center, classes range from understanding how to turn over flipped vehicles to mathematics that help determine the suction of a vehicle immersed in either water or mud. The center has the ability to train more than 2,000 students yearly in the areas of wheeled and tracked vehicle recovery, maintenance and rigging.

The cleanup came as part of Fort Knox's post-wide cleanup involving most of the units on post. Sustainer building guitar for veterans

For the past 19 years, Capt. Chad Ryg of the 3d Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) has considered playing the guitar to be one of his favorite pastimes. Ryg, a Billings, Mont., native and 3d ESC maintenance officer, began playing the guitar in high school and found it to be fun and as he said jokingly, "a cool way to pick up girls at the time." But what Ryg didn't know was that what he considered fun, could also be therapeutic to others.

Waterborne Soldiers get moving for breast cancer awareness

FORT EUSTIS, VA. (Oct. 22, 2010) - Did you know breast cancer will strike approximately one in eight women, a startling statistic according to data provided by the National Cancer Institute. Waterborne Soldiers assigned to the 10th Transportation Battalion in conjunction with Beyond Boobs, a Virginia based non-profit organization, held a 'Run for a Cure' October 22. Soldiers, family members, and survivors taking part in the event showed their support by wearing pink, the color long associated with the breast cancer.

'Resolute' Warriors demonstrate water-borne capability in Japan

FORT EUSTIS, Va (Sept. 13, 2010) - Soldiers from the 97th Transportation Company, 10th Transportation Battalion, 7th Sustainment Brigade, participated in the Pacific Reach 2010 exercise Aug. 22 through Sept. 8 in Japan. The 21 'Waterborne' Soldiers began their mission at Yokohama North Dock where they assisted with an inventory of Army Materiel Command vessels. They ensured the watercraft were well-stocked and conducted inspections of the vessels to identify maintenance issues. After tending to some minor repairs, the boats were ready to get under way, explained 2nd Lt. Scott Lechner, 97th Trans. Co. platoon leader and the mission officer in charge for Pacific Reach.

The competition was tough for the four NCOs and three Soldiers appearing before the board but only two could be declared the winner.

Family Life Chaplain Promotes Suicide Prevention Month

Trained to respond effectively to co-workers, colleagues, neighbors and Family members who are suffering and may be at the risk of suicide, the 3d ESC's Family life chaplain is an important component in the Army's promotion of September as Suicide Prevent Month.

FORT KNOX, Ky. (Sept. 2, 2010) - The U.S. Army Forces Command Command Sgt. Maj., Command Sgt. Maj. Ronald Riling, spoke to a packed Abrams Auditorium in Fort Knox's Patton Museum on September 1. The Soldiers whom Riling addressed were non-commissioned officers from the growing FORSCOM contingent on Fort Knox and included members of the 233rd Transportation Co., 19th Engineer Bn. and 3d Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) Headquarters, the unit that is responsible for most of the Soldiers who attended the event.

The purpose of the TOCEX was to test the 3d ESC's readiness for a short-notice deployment, like the one the unit dealt with when it went to Haiti earlier this year.
