    As several performers entered the stage, the audience seemed enchanted by the ceremonial garb adorning their bodies. The awe quickly turned to excitement as the performers began shouting and dancing on stage. Soon the entire theater was filled with war cries as performers, strategically placed behind the audience, shouted in unison with their on stage companions. The Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Observance Program was in full swing.

The years of fighting amassed large quantities of equipment that needed to be returned to the services or disposed. Although retrograde occurred as early as 2012, the retrograde mission officially started with a four-phase operation in June 2013; Operation Drumbeat.

    3d Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) Support Operations Mobility Section managed, coordinated, and synchronized all ground and air transportation logistics support in the Afghanistan Theater of Operation during the final phases of Operation Enduring Freedom. These monumental tasks included transportation support for sustainment, retrograde, and base closure, while having supported 55,000 Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Seamen, and Civilians dispersed over 252,000 square miles.

    The 3rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) set up their Early Entry Command Post April 21 at the Mission Command Training Center on Fort Knox. The EECP is the 3rd ESC's rapidly deployable Operational Sustainment Headquarters and can provide a wide variety of logistical functions. The EECP setup was part of a multi-phase training event for the 3rd ESC which ended on May 1.

    When Spc. Jason Eskritt deployed with the 3rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) in April, his goal was to keep a low profile and not draw much attention to himself. Eskritt, never one to bask in the spotlight, figured he would go to work daily, do his job and return to Fort Knox in nine months after performing his duties as an information systems operator-analyst in support of the Joint Sustainment Command--Afghanistan. But unbeknownst to Eskritt, his co-workers and supervisors were paying special attention to him, particularly his work ethic and special abilities.
