Chandler said the current continuing resolution is affecting shortfalls in Army funding of overseas contingency operations due to emerging costs in theater, and with the enactment of sequestration, the Army is also being forced to make dramatic cuts to personnel, readiness, and modernization programs, thereby putting national security at risk.

Chandler III vistied Fort Bragg, N.C., Aug. 13, 201, and answered Soldiers' questions at a town hall meeting at the Noncommissioned Officer Academy during his first visit to Bragg as the sergeant major of the Army. Chandler participated in three town hall meetings with more than 600 Soldiers and discussed new changes in the Army, while also answering questions and current concerns Soldiers had.

Though the Army allows the wear of most types of minimalist running shoes with the improved physical fitness uniform and when conducting physical training in military formation, officials are urging Soldiers to transition slowly when switching from regular running shoes to those that offer less support.
