The motor transport operator, assigned to Company F, Task Force 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 1st Advise and Assist Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, United States Division - Center, said that once home he and his Family will take holiday photos and shop for gifts, and they will continue a Family tradition they had to put off last year.

That's a problem we who have served with the rear detachments for the past year welcome, as do our Families, Army Civilians and our supportive communities "outside the gate." It means that those Soldiers of the Marne Division who deployed last fall are coming home.

<b>FORT STEWART, Ga.</b> While on his third deployment to Iraq, Staff Sgt. Coy Hartman was returning from a mission with other 4th Advise and Assist Brigade Military Police after training Iraqi Police, when their Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle was struck by a Ruchnaya Kumulyativnaya Granata (Handheld Shaped Charge Grenade) in Fallujah, Iraq, Aug. 9. The grenade caused extensive damage to his thigh and ankle. Another Soldier in the vehicle suffered injuries as well.

<b>FORT STEWART, Ga. </b> - In order to evaluate the installation's knowledge of preventing Soldiers from taking their own lives, the Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield Suicide Prevention Task Force conducted a drill to test the Soldier's knowledge of ACE - Ask Care and Escort. These are the basic steps of what to do if a Soldier is contemplating suicide. A card with those words and instructions of what to do if someone approaches them saying they are thinking of committing suicide, is issued to every Soldier to make sure they know what to do should their battle buddy be depressed or thinking of suicide.

SULAYMANIA, Iraq - The Gold Star Mothers Organization was created to provide emotional support to U.S. women who have lost a son or daughter in the line of duty. Nine of these Gold Star Mothers traveled to the Sulaymania Arts Center for a three-day conference, beginning Sept. 26. For these mothers, it was a chance to see what their child was fighting for and to see the outcome of a war that claimed their child's life.

Ceremony honors fallen Vanguard Soldiers

CAMP RAMADI, Iraq - Hundreds of Soldiers came together to commemorate the lives of two fallen comrades during a memorial service in their honor, Oct. 2. Specialist John Carrillo Jr. and Pfc. Gebrah Noonan died of injuries suffered from a non-combat related incident at Camp Fallujah, Iraq, Sept. 23. Both Soldiers were assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 4th Advise and Assist Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, and were deployed in support of Operation New Dawn.

3rd CAB Families test strength, endurance in Family Iron Viper

<b>FORT STEWART, Ga.</b> - The Iron Viper is an annual physical competition conducted by the 1st Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment, 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade "Viper Battalion" Soldiers. The Iron Viper consists of an Army Physical Fitness Test followed by a 12-mile road march with a rucksack full of 40 pounds of Army gear. In the Family-version of the competition, participants ran one mile, did sit ups and push ups, and marched six miles with a 20 pound ruck.

<b>FORT STEWART</b> -The audience at Fort Stewart 's Newman Fitness Center was dazzled by the spectacular performance from the Soldiers of the 2010 U.S. Army Soldier Show, Oct. 5 and 6. The show is themed "Soldier Show v.27.0," marking the 27th year the show has been entertaining Soldiers and Families and the technical advances that have been made since the show's inception. However, what the audience and fans did not see was the demanding production that goes on behind the scenes that lays the groundwork for this historical event to succeed. Crew as well as performers play a key role in the set up and breakdown of the show, said John Stewart the program director for the Soldier Show.

Tamerria Robinson, a 7th-grade student at West Chatham Middle School and daughter of a Hunter Army Airfield Soldier, had no idea that writing a letter to the President would result in her being recognized by him. In his second annual Back to School speech, President Barack Obama talked about her letter in a live online speech September 14 encouraging children to stay in school.

3rd ID Soldier posthumously awarded Silver Star after 57 years

FREEDOM PLAINS, N.Y. - Brigadier General Jeffrey Phillips, 3rd Infantry Division deputy commanding general-rear, presented Pfc. Charlie Johnson, posthumously, with the Silver Star, the nation's third-highest medal for valor in combat. The Silver Star is awarded for gallantry in action against an enemy of the United States. Private First Class Johnson, a Browning automatic rifleman with the 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd ID, was killed in action June 12, 1953, after an eight-day battle at Outpost Harry, in the Choran Valley during the Korean War. During the battle, Pfc. Johnson placed himself between his comrades and the enemy, creating the conditions for their successful rescue.
