    Actress Sissy Spacek starred in the movie "Coal Miner's Daughter," but Vonzetta Davis-Lewis , brings new life and meaning to this real life story of a woman who overcame a meager beginning to become successful. Davis-Lewis says that it was her father, a former West Virginia coal miner, who had the greatest impact on her life because he was humble, patient, peaceful and a hard worker. Adopted, along with her sister as a toddler, she affectionately refers to her dad as the "nicest person you would ever want to meet." He made sure that his girls always felt special and stressed that not everyone would like them because of their brown skin, but they, in turn, had to treat everyone fairly and with respect.

The morning of Jan. 20, Lt. Col. Marcos relinquished command of her unit in a ceremony at Cottrell Field, thanking the Soldiers who sacrificed so much during the unit's deployment.

    Busses pulled into a packed parking lot near Wilson Gate at Hunter Army Airfield, packed with the Soldiers and leadership of the 3rd Sustainment Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, during the early morning hours, Oct. 27. Police cars and motorcycles were parked at the edge of the parking lot. The grassy field in front of the parking lot was filled from left to right with around 200 Soldiers, stretching and mentally preparing themselves for what was about to take place. They were getting ready to do battle with a vicious enemy, one who has already claimed the lives of thousands of people. The enemy: breast cancer.

Brandon Wooldridge, an infantryman assigned to 2nd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, who is familiar with overcoming immense odds. After losing his lower left leg in a firefight in Iraq in late 2004, then-Spc. Wooldridge won his lengthy battle to stay in the Army as an infantryman in 2006.

Although it was past 1:30 a.m., Dec. 12, the Families were more than willing to wait. The 3rd Infantry Division band strikes up a lively marching beat, breaking the lull in the crowd's screams, and Soldiers emerge from the tree line.
