As the brigade's tour is winding down and the end is now in sight, relief has arrived in the form of the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade, based out of Germany. Before the 1st ACB fully hands the reigns over to the 12th CAB, the two units are conducting what is commonly referred to as a relief in place.

    More than 45 years removed from a fateful day in Vietnam, Col. (Ret.) Bruce Crandall returned to a war zone here in Afghanistan March 28. He's no longer a pilot-in-command, just a citizen who wanted to personally thank Soldiers for serving their country in combat. For his actions on the day of Nov. 14, 1965, Crandall was awarded the Medal of Honor by former President George W. Bush during a ceremony at the White House Feb. 26, 2007.
