The models will permit Soldiers and employees a preview of their potential Fort Bragg workspace. The two model work stations are examples of the 2,773 work stations Hensel Phelps will install next year at the new five-story Fort Bragg combined headquarter building. "This is state of the art stuff, all new," said FORSCOM G-1 BRAC Planner Gary Goulden. "For example, the flexible computer-monitor arm will permit you to swivel and angle your monitor, to rotate it and bring it closer to you."

    Soldiers with the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit's Service Rifle team braved the heat and stiff competition to uphold the Army's reputation as the military's best marksmen and came out on top at the 49th Interservice Rifle Championships. With their accomplishment, the USAMU enabled the Army to complete a sweep of all Interservice marksmanship championships in 2010-Soldiers and teams from the USAMU previously won the shotgun and pistol Interservice competitions, as a team and individually.

(Aug. 2, 2010) - The first person of Hawaiian ancestry to wear the three stars of an Army lieutenant general retired here today after 38 years service to the Army and the nation. Army Lt. Gen. Joseph F. Peterson, deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Forces Command, had served as the deputy commander at FORSCOM since Dec. 11, 2006 when he arrived, following service in Iraq. Hosted by Gen. James D. Thurman, FORSCOM's commanding general, the Soldiers and Civilian staff gathered at the field in front of FORSCOM Headquarters for the ceremony to honor Peterson.

    FORT McPHERSON, Ga. (July 29, 2010) - Gen. James D. Thurman, U.S. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) commander, official affirmed Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff, G-6 William "Bill" T. Lasher into Senior Executive Service (SES) Thursday, during an appointment ceremony at FORSCOM headquarters. "I'm honored to get to this level. The Army is a team "sport," and there are a bunch of folks who helped me get to this level." Lasher said. "It's been a combination of skill, teamwork, and luck for me." In the Army, senior executives are the civilian counterparts of general officers. Some occupy the Army's top civilian management jobs, serving in position within the sustaining scientific and technical experts on whom the Army depends to achieve and sustain technical supremacy. These professionals are also the equivalent of Directors, Vice Presidents, and Chief Executive Officers (CEO's) of medium to large-scale companies in the private sector. Thurman said Lasher's recently obtained SES status arrives on the heels of more than 33 year of service to the U.S. Army, which will be instrumental to his success in his new position.

(July 13, 2010) - The first of many Soldiers and Civilian staff members of the Army's largest command gathered today at their headquarters to mark the official start of U.S. Army Forces Command's relocation to Fort Bragg, N.C. Dubbed the "Torch Party" departure ceremony, the event included hundreds of FORSCOM staffers, who assembled to recognize 13 members of the first wave of their fellow headquarters personnel departing for North Carolina. These initial "torchbearers" will be joined at Fort Bragg by 37 other FORSCOM staff members from Fort McPherson as they plant the Command's forward element's guidon at the Old Bowley School on Fort Bragg. The mission of the 50-member Torch Party is to begin preparations for the arrival of hundreds with the FORSCOM Advance Echelon to Bragg in October.

    As part of the annual battalion Family Day, Soldiers and their Families gathered on Sicily Drop Zone to enjoy good food, have fun and learn about what the troops do every day.     For most paratroopers, reaching the pinnacle of their jumping career involves earning their master parachutist wings. Chief Warrant Officer 2 Michael Sanders, a senior interrogator with the XVIII Airborne Corps, reached this apex after becoming "airborne" again. The master parachutist wings are awarded to individuals who have conducted 65 jumps from aircraft, graduated from a jumpmaster's course, and has served on jump status with an airborne unit for a minimum of 36 months.

    The U.S. Army concluded its three-week assessment of a waveform that could help separated squads maintain communications despite terrain and obstructions, during its annual integrated capabilities event at Fort Dix on June 25. The U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command's communications-electronics cenA,A!ter conducted a 36 node assessment of the Soldier Radio Waveform in a relevant field environment. This was done to gauge the waveform's ability to support platoon-level data and voice traffic from the rifleman up to the squad leader. When squads spread out, they can potentially loose communications due to obstructions in the terrain. SRW is "exciting" because the network "self heals" its fragmented connectivity by leveraging other squad radios using the waveform.
