Alaska Soldiers train 'Down Under'

For these military police Soldiers part of a group of 26 Soldiers from units in Korea, the 25th Inf. Div., the 8th Military Police Brigade, 8th Theater Sustainment command, and the Directorate of Emergency Services, Hawaii, the last thing on their mind is how they are just training or their graduation as Special Reaction Team members later in the week, here, on Aug 24. They focus on their mission; distractions are for Soldiers not ready for the brutal realities of the SRT, the Army's equivalent of a SWAT team. A unit that stands ready to rapidly engage in hostage situations, conduct drug stings and provide an added level of firepower and skill sets to the Military Police mission.

Reserve Soldiers from Puerto Rico continue legacy of service in Korea

In August 1950, Soldiers from the 65th Infantry Regiment, the only Hispanic segregated unit in the U.S. military history, departed from Puerto Rico to participate in the Korean War, where they played a critical role during the hostilities, by participating in nine major campaigns through the peninsula, being one of the first troops to meet the enemy.

WHEELER ARMY AIRFIELD -- It was all smiles and shouts of joy throughout the crowd as Soldiers of the 95th Engineer Company (Clearance) marched into the building here at Wheeler Gulch Aug. 14. The company, part of 65th Engineer Battalion, 130th Eng. Brigade, 8th Theater Sustainment Command, redeployed to Schofield Barracks after a successful one-year tour in Afghanistan. Lt. Col. Darman Place, commander of 65th Eng. Bn., expressed his gratitude for their service. "Having the 95th Route Clearance 'Wolfpack' home is, simply put, an answered prayer and marks the first time the 65th Engineer Battalion has been whole in over three years," Place said. "The Soldiers of the Wolfpack, each and every one of them, are American heroes and deserve this heroes' welcome."

Semaphore ceremony takes the Signal Corps back to basics. FORT SHAFTER, Hawaii (Aug. 15, 2012) -- Long before the advent of the radio, battlefield communications took the form of the Wig Wag. With each position representing different letters, numerals and special signs, wigwaggers could signal an entire command to attention in complete silence. The 311th Signal Command (Theater) paid homage to this historical means of communications by conducting the entire 311th change of command ceremony, during which Maj. Gen. James T. Walton assumed command from outgoing commander Brig. Gen. William Scott, utilizing the Signal Corps semaphore flags.

Secretary of the Army John McHugh conducts an official visit to the Mongolian Ministry of Defense to meet with senior officials. Thousands of Mongolian peacekeepers have contributed to world stability over the last 10 years, an impressive contribution for a country of its size. The Mongolian Armed Forces are highly regarded by American Soldiers who have served with them in Iraq and Afghanistan. Currently, approximately 700 troops conduct base security and train the Afghan National Army artillery. In March, Mongolia was designated as the first NATO "partner" under the Individual Partnership and Cooperation Program. McHugh will also observe U.S. service members participating in Exercise Khaan Quest 2012, a regularly scheduled, multinational exercise sponsored by the U.S. Army, Pacific, and hosted annually by the Mongolian Armed Forces.

However, as in previous years, they won't be heading to school alone.
