Army Reserve culinary decorations center of attraction

This year, three Army Reserve Soldiers are members of the U.S. Army Culinary Arts Team from Ft. Lee, Va., that will compete in the Culinary World Cup in Luxemburg, November 20-25. Staff Sgt. Joseph Parker of the 841st Engineer Battalion, Miami, Fla., Spc. Jeffrey Vaughan assigned to the 55th Sustainment Brigade from Ft. Belvoir, Va. and Sgt. Trent Skinner of the 645th Transportation Company (Inland Cargo) from Las Vegas, Nev., are the first Army Reserve Soldiers to be appointed to the them that has been a joint team, open to service members from all branches, since 2008.

MANNHEIM, Germany (Nov. 18, 2010) -- Soldiers with 5th Signal Command's 43rd Signal Battalion conducted a three-day field exercise at the Local Training Area using real-world scenarios to train Warrior Task skills. In one scenario, the Soldiers were deployed to Spain to conduct humanitarian aid to village people after a devastating earthquake. Soldiers from the 43rd were approached by a mayor of a local Spanish town to solicit aid from the U.S. Soldiers.

The "Warhammers" were represented by their Warrior Challenge team, SportsCenter Top 10 announcers and hundreds 18th CSSB Soldiers who came out to support and wave the Warhammer banner.

U.S. Army Garrison Brussels Military Police Soldier Spc. Kevin S. Belanger has been named Benelux Soldier of the Quarter following a three-day competition. For Belanger the win was the latest achievement in a life spent trying to be a better person and Soldier each day. Belanger was born in Haverhill, Mass. but grew up in Plaistow, N.H. Following high school he tried to make it as a musician playing drums in a band called "The Morning Sky." His music career didn't work out but there was something else he'd always wanted to do--become a police officer.

Task Force Destiny Soldiers receive the Distinguished Flying Cross

Four Alpha Company, 5-158 Aviation Regiment, "Fighting Falcons," Soldiers were awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross Nov. 1st at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan for their heroism on an aerial flight April 2, 2010. Chief Warrant Officer two Sean Johnson, Chief Warrant Officer Two Eric Wells, Sgt. William Ebel and Spc. Todd Marchese were part of the successful medevac of eight German commandos in the vicinity of Konduz, Afghanistan. The Germans were ambushed by insurgents and this crew performed multiple suppressive gun runs which kept the insurgents from surrounding the commandos and allowed the bird to land and extract the wounded. This crew has already received the German Gold Cross of Honor for Bravery. They are four of 14 foreigners to have ever received this award. On September 17, 1944, thousands of paratroopers descended from the sky by parachute and glider up to 150 kilometers behind enemy lines. Their goal was to secure two bridges across the rivers in Holland so the Allied armies could advance rapidly northward and turn right into the lowlands of Germany, thereby skirting around the German defense line. The operation was called Market Garden.

21st TSC team goes to Croatia, plans for Immediate Response '11 exercise

Working closely with our European allies is a critical part of U.S. Army Europe's mission. To support this mission, the 21st Theater Sustainment Command sent several Soldiers and civilians to Croatia Aug. 23-27 to conduct a joint site survey for the upcoming exercise there, Immediate Response '11.

U.S. Army Europe Band and Chorus makes debut in Red Square

The U.S. Army Europe Band and Chorus is performing at the Sept. 4-9 Moscow Military Tattoo. Also known as the "Spasskaya Tower" Festival, the event brought in bands and performers from 10 nations for a celebration of military and popular music. While the USAREUR unit performed at the Kremlin five years ago, this year's festival marked the unit's debut in Red Square. 7th CSC reacts to disasters during GS'10

A chemical plant in a foreign country accidently releases a plume of toxic fumes causing panic, sickness and numerous deaths within the city where the plant is located. Adding to all the chaos, the weather makes the situation worse for the citizens who live in the area of direct impact. A call comes from the foreign country for U.S. assistance. Who will go'

TASM-E nears completion of Dutch FMS reset mission

The Theater Aviation Sustainment Manager - Europe is nearing completion of a Foreign Military Sales reset mission for the Dutch military. TASM-E has already completed reset for two AH64D Apache helicopters owned by the Dutch military and is nearing completion of the third. The aircraft had been purchased by the Dutch military through the FMS program.

Sgt. Nicole Jenkins, a corrections officer with U.S. Army Confinement Facility- Europe, took the Army commercial that said Soldiers do more before breakfast than most people do all day to heart. She has lived it the last four years and shows no signs of stopping any time soon.

21st TSC assists in recovering Soldier's remains in France

More than six decades after giving his life for freedom, an American Soldier is on his way home. A four-person team with the 21st Theater Sustainment Command's U.S. Army Memorial Affairs Activity, Europe, recently recovered the Soldier's remains at the Rhone American Cemetery and Memorial here.

Training surge at Graf to prep forces for Afghanistan

August marks the beginning of a three-month surge in training at the Joint Multinational Training Command's Grafenwoehr Training Area and Hohenfels Training Area in eastern Bavaria. The training includes tactics for Counter-Improvised Explosive Device, International Security Assistance Force training, and full-spectrum operations, as well as small-arms qualifications, vehicle gunnery, and live-fire exercises.

457th Civil Affairs Battalion trains with Romanian Soldiers

In remote villages of Afghanistan, it is difficult for the population to obtain food, water, medical supplies, and other items essential for survival. One of the roles of Civil Affairs is to move into these areas, assess the needs, and restore the infrastructure necessary to deliver these items. On the training grounds of the Joint Multinational Readiness Center here, Civil Affairs Soldiers gain the advantage of going through realistic scenarios to prepare them for these missions.

Chances are, no other 21st Theater Sustainment Command Soldier had his nose powdered by a make-up artist before participating in a live broadcast at the German television station SWR Fernsehen, here. Sgt. Juan Carlos Mogollon, the PLL non-commissioned officer in charge at the 21st TSC motor pool did - twice.

GRAFENWOEHR, Germany - A car pulls up to a military checkpoint and the driver is found carrying five cell phones. The guards are suspicious because having multiple phones could be a sign of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) engineer. They yank the man out of the car and slam him to the ground. Because they had no translator they couldn't understand the man's explanation. He turned out to be a regional Lord and carried five phones to make sure he had coverage in every area.

GRAFENWOEHR, Germany - It looks like something that should be from the moon landing with spindly legs and large lamp-like cameras, but it isn't used to explore the heavens. Instead, it explores hidden dangers underneath the ground. The Joint Multinational Training Command (JMTC) provided a class in mine detection in order to raise the awareness of one of the most dangerous threats in Afghanistan.

Historic 28th Trans closes chapter on 74 years of service

The griffin mascot and the gold and buff colors of the 28th Transportation Battalion have long been a common fixture in Germany as the unit's trucks have logged thousands of miles across the country's roads and autobahns. Now after 74 years of service to our nation, the 28th Trans. Bn. is closing the chapter in its history and saying its final farewell to Germany.
