Sgt. 1st Class Emigdio Pineda, with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' 249th Engineering Battalion, takes notes while looking at generators at the New York Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was part of one of six teams made up of two Soldiers and one New York City Office of Emergency Management official each that traveled around New York City recently checking out the power needs of critical facilities as part of an emergency preparedness exercise. The 249th assists with providing emergency temporary power to critical facilities in the event of a natural or non-natural disaster. Building a database of information through exercises like this one can help speed up that process if a disaster strikes.
