Vietnamese Army Dr. (Capt.) Le Khac Hiep examines an elderly man during the third day of a Medical Readiness Training Exercise in the Bac Ninh province of Vietnam, July 11. This is the first bilateral Medical Readiness Exercise, co-hosted by Vietnam and the United States, and is intended to improve medical interoperability between the Military Medical Department of Vietnamese People's Army (MMD) and U.S. Army Pacific, provide experience and education for medical operations in harsh environments, unfamiliar culture, and unusual diseases with austere support; and provide humanitarian assistance. The MEDRETE is scheduled to end July 15.
