Caption on back reads: The Lincoln Highway, designed in 1913 began in New York City's Time Square and ended in San Francisco's Lincoln Park. For a short time in US history, Belle Plaine, Iowa, was on the main traveling route between the two. In this photo a wayfarer's camp was established by the Tippie family to house the many travelers through this area.
