"Kip" Ward, commander of U.S. Africa Command (right), during the Land Forces Symposium, April 22, 2009. The symposium, organized by the Kenyan Army and U.S. Army Central, is an annual forum that brings together international military leaders to discuss common challenges, exchange views, and foster security cooperation throughout the Horn of Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia. Ward attended sessions April 23 after a two-day visit to Rwanda. Beginning next year, U.S. Africa Command's Army component, U.S. Army Africa, will become the lead U.S. Army organization to plan the event.
